World Central Kitchen (WCK) is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Chef Relief Team mobilizes to the frontlines with the urgency of now to start cooking and provide meals to people in need. Deploying our model of quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, we are able to respond to multiple disasters at once — often on opposite ends of the world. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of food trucks or emergency kitchens, WCK provides freshly made, nutritious meals to survivors of disasters quickly and effectively. World Central Kitchen (WCK) builds resilient food systems with locally led solutions. After WCK has led a food relief activation and the emergency is over, we sometimes make long-term commitments of support in places where we feel we can successfully address chronic food system challenges with our unique blend of talents and resources. Through locally led approaches, our food resilience programs advance human and environmental health, offer access to professional culinary training, create jobs, and improve food security for the people we serve. This work began after the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, with the belief that food can be a powerful agent of positive change in distressed communities.
